How to welcome Christmas in Mexico City

While the Historic Center is already decorated with the characteristic lighting of the season, the different districts are also preparing surprises for the inhabitants of the municipalities. Christmas trees, Santa Claus and ornaments with which you can take a souvenir picture will be available for you to visit. But in some places there will be specific days where you will be able to witness the official opening of these spaces.

These municipalities will have a Christmas Village:

Miguel Hidalgo

As every year, the residents of this district are invited to visit the esplanade of the mayor's office because since December 1st the traditional tree is already available. In addition, Mayor Mauricio Tabe announced that there will also be shows, musicals, workshops and a sensory village that promises to be one of the favorite attractions.

Cuauhtémoc

Sandra Cuevas went all out and has already installed a giant tree, however, unlike Miguel Hidalgo, this one is located in the Puskin Garden, you can get there by Metrobus at the station of the same name. It is available from the first weekend of December and will also feature various activities and shows to liven up the night of the neighbors.

Álvaro Obregón

Christmas has also arrived to the eastern district of the city, and the Salón de Usos Múltiples became the perfect setting for the village installed by PAN member Lía Limón. In Álvaro Obregón, in addition to the classic tree and light shows, visitors will be able to find a toboggan and an ice rink that will be available starting December 9 and will be removed on January 6, 2024.

Christmas Eve Flower Festival

The Christmas Eve Flower Festival 2023 will take place from November 27 to December 17 on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue. At the event, some of the more than 1.8 million pots produced this year in the conservation land, especially from the municipalities of Xochimilco, Tláhuac, Milpa Alta and Tlalpan, will be on sale. According to the government of the capital, the festival aims to improve the life and income of rural communities dedicated to floriculture through local and direct trade.

A Christmas Carol

The José Martí Cultural Center will host the adaptation of A Christmas Carol, a short novel that tells the story of a greedy and selfish man named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation after being visited by a series of ghosts on Christmas Eve. His nephew even invites him to spend Christmas Eve with them, but Scrooge spurns him.

The event is free and will take place on December 10 and 17 at 3:30 p.m. and will be open to children from 7 years of age.

In addition, there are other events such as the Christmas Tourist Festival of Mexico City, from December 12 to 17, with the presence of several states of the country to promote tourist destinations in the Chapultepec Forest; pilgrimages and posadas in the 16 Mayors' offices; concerts, bazaars and theatrical performances such as "The Nutcracker", Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez in the Chapultepec Castle and "Harry Potter: The Great Winter Ball", available for consultation of dates and times on the Mexico City billboard page.
