The Best Parks in Polanco for a Well-Deserved Break

Lincoln Park

This park is one of the most popular not only in Polanco, but throughout Mexico City. It features water ponds that give it a distinctive touch compared to other parks in the city. At one point, these mini water pools gave the park its name and it was known as Mirror Park.

Within it stands the statue of Abraham Lincoln, which arrived in Mexico in 1966, resulting in the name change from Palomar Park to Lincoln Park. Within this area you'll find an open-air theater, an aviary, and an iconic clock tower dating from the 1930s. 

The original idea for the tower was to serve as a refuge for pigeons, however, its deterioration was inevitable and it was replaced with a clock. Currently, this building has served as an iconic reference point for Polanco. You can appreciate this clock within this space and also as a symbol of the Polanco metro station just a few meters away.

Campos Elíseos

This park is small, but no less important, as it sits between the boundaries of Polanco and Chapultepec. Years ago, the Río de los Morales flowed along this avenue, marking the limits of the estate that bore the same name. Over time, the river disappeared and became Campos Elíseos avenue. 

This point in Polanco is representative of the 20th century, as its name references the Parisian street and demonstrates European influence, particularly French, in Mexico during Porfirio Díaz's government.

Four roundabouts, benches from the 1930s, and a large grove of trees are the elements that make up this green space, ideal not only for taking a break but also for seeing residential Polanco and some beautiful mansions. Some would say this is one of the most beautiful and stylish areas of this neighborhood.

Garden of the Republic of Lebanon

This park is located in the first section of Polanco and borders Chapultepec, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring this area. Its large size is adorned with cedar trees in reference to the Lebanese embassy just meters away. Its constant maintenance and great variety of trees make this space not only an ideal garden for those walking with pets wanting to escape the noise of the main avenues, but also one of the small natural reserves that still exist in Mexico City.

Plaza Uruguay

Within Polanco you'll find not only parks, but plazas that function the same way: as an oasis amid the city's hustle and bustle. At its center stands a Cubist-style fountain that fills this place with peace and tranquility. 

In this garden stands the statue of José Gervasio Artigas, a military leader and one of the principal figures in Uruguay's independence. This plaza commemorates the arrival of Uruguayans to Mexico who were exiled from their homeland during the 1970s.

Currently it's a place where you can still see some squirrels and hear the songs of birds, which blend with the fountain's sound to create the perfect setting to connect with nature.

América Park 

This park is in the heart of Polanco and is ideal for getting some fresh air, sitting down and taking in some of Polanco's most striking facades, or you can exercise outdoors or simply take a short walk. 

It's located on Horacio street and surrounding it are different spots that will make your breaks special, including the Church of San Agustín, one of the city's largest parishes, occupying an entire block. 

The Church of San Agustín is an iconic religious building and a defining landmark of Polanco. Since its founding in 1949, designed by architect Leonardo Noriega, until today it turns heads, not only for its size, but also for its Art Deco style decoration and a relief of the first Augustinians as ornamentation.

Around América Park you'll also find galleries, open-air flower shops, restaurants, and small stations to rent a bicycle and explore this area further. As you can see, Polanco is not only a place of offices and residential zones, but a place where exercise, fresh air, and nature come together.
